Periodontist
Duties and Responsibilities:Job Description. As
a periodontist, you'll treat patients who have gum disease and other
issues of the gums and bones surrounding the jaw. Your work may be surgical or
non-surgical and might include tasks like placing implants, developing
treatment plans, and providing preventative care.
Salary:Periodontist vs. Dentist. The
American Dental Association reports that as of 2009, the average annual net
income for a dentist in private practice was$192,680, while specialists such as
periodontists earned an average of $305,820.
Education:Even after you complete four years
of dental school, you are not quite finished. Periodontists are required to
complete a periodontics residency, which is usually three years long.
In order to become board certified, you will need to pass a written and oral
exam administered by the American Board of Periodontology.
